ETA Requirements & How to Apply

A complete applicant guide to eligibility, required information, and the step-by-step process for the Ghana Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).

1 About the Ghana ETA

The Ghana Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is an online travel authorization for eligible travellers who do not require a Ghana visa but must obtain authorization before travelling to Ghana.

The ETA is issued through the official Ghana eVisa/ETA portal to travellers whose eligibility result is "ETA Required." The application process is completed online. Applicants should provide accurate information, upload genuine and legible supporting documents, and monitor their registered email address and application dashboard.

2 Eligibility

Who Needs an ETA

The ETA regime applies to nationals of:

  • All African Union (AU) member states.
  • All ECOWAS member states.
  • Countries holding a current bilateral visa waiver agreement with Ghana.

The definitive eligibility list is maintained by the Director, Visa & Permits in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and is confirmed using the official Eligibility Checker.

The ETA is free of charge

The ETA is not a visa — it is a free pre-travel security authorisation for eligible nationals. There is no fee to apply. The maximum permitted stay under the ETA is 90 days from the date of entry.

Use the official Eligibility Checker before applying for an ETA.

  • If the result is "ETA Required," proceed to Travel Authorization and complete the ETA application described in this guide.
  • If a different result is returned — Visa-Free or eVisa Required — follow the applicable route instead of applying for an ETA.
  • Eligibility depends on nationality, passport type and applicable government policy, and may change. Always check the current result before applying or travelling.
Do not assume eligibility

Nationality alone may not be sufficient to determine the applicable route. Use the current eligibility checker before applying or travelling.
